What the Heck is a Houseplant Designer??

We’re called a lot of different things… House Plant Expert, Indoor Plant Designer, Plant Consultant, the list goes on and on. But what we do is the same: make your indoor spaces beautiful with plants!!

A New York Times article called “You Can Pay People to Style Your Houseplants” highlights some New York house plant experts and describes what they do: meet with people who want plants in their homes but don’t have the expertise or time to spend on purchasing, potting, styling, or caring for them.

WHAT WE DO

Think of a marriage between your interior designer and your landscape designer and you’ll be on the right track. It seems natural to invest money in your home’s furnishings and decor, and in your gardens and lawn around the house.

House plant designers bring the outdoors in, highlighting architectural features in and around your home, playing with scale and drama by installing a green wall, or adding vibrant new energy to a bay window that just wasn’t complete before it was filled with plants.

SPARK A CONNECTION

I started Wild Violet because I wanted to help people have a healthy, happy relationship with plants. It makes me sad when I meet someone and they tell me horror stories about their plants dying so they decided they weren’t going to buy any more. I want to see more of the faces of people who have “kept their fern alive for a whole year!”

It’s important for us as humans to be in touch with nature. We like living on tree-lined streets, or near a park, but many of us are missing a HUGE opportunity to bring nature to us, indoors, where we work and recharge and spend time with loved ones.

AESTHETICS ARE IMPORTANT

On top of the desire to help people be successful with plants, I also firmly believe that you can’t have great design without plants. They bring beautiful spaces to life by adding color and texture, living energy, growth and change over time, and they can carry your eye through a well designed room better than any decorative accessory.
