5 Great Online Plant Stores, Vol. 1

Dust off your credit cards, windex those windows, and make some room on your shelves and sills! I dug through the internet to bring you some of the best plant stores online, shipping right now.

I had a blast searching for cool plant shops you might not know about so you can fill your home with all the plant babies you can handle.

My focus was on high quality products, creative options, and plants that are great for beginners and seasoned collectors alike.

I haven’t ordered from all of these vendors… YET… but have been placing some new orders so keep an eye on my Instagram for updates!

I’ve chosen 5 of my favorites to feature. There are SO MANY MORE so keep an eye out for future lists over the next few months!

TERRAIN

OK I’m a lot biased because I worked as a garden buyer here for 10 years, but that means I know first hand that terrain is the best! terrain has been mail ordering cool and unusual plants in decorative pots for many years, so they have it down to a science. On top of that, they are passionate gardeners who love plants, so you can be sure you’ve found something unique and high quality. You’ll find succulents and terrarium plants, air plants, and houseplants of all sizes along side fruit shrubs, citrus trees, fresh flowers, and more.

Best for: gift plants, unusual selection

PISTILS

An Oregon plant shop and garden design firm, Pistils has some of my favorite specialty plant creations available on their site. Browse their wide selection of cool cork mounted plants, staghorn ferns, and kokedama - I dare you not to buy something!

If these items aren’t to your taste, they have a nice selection of potted houseplants, pots and supplies to send to a loved one.

Best for: fun kits and mounted plants

HORTI

I love Horti! They’re dedicated to helping beginner green thumbs find success with plants. They offer subscription packages with plants that scale up in difficulty over time. Thorough, easy to understand care instructions, great quality plants, and cute hand-painted pots make them a no-brainer as a gift for you or a friend. You can even order an Instant Jungle from them with up to 20 new plants, or purchase a plant donation that Horti will give to someone who’s in need of a pick-me-up.

Best for: beginners

STEVE’S LEAVES

This is one of my favorites of the bunch. Steve’s Leaves is a tropical plant grower and wholesaler, with a reliable, high quality selection of really cool plants for retail sale on their website. They specialize in rare, quirky varieties and even breed their own begonias like the one on the left!

Try your luck in one of their collector plant auctions or purchase directly from their stock. It’s so much fun to browse their site, and they have a great Instagram feed filled with some of their favorite goodies.

Best for: rare varieties

GARDEN GOODS DIRECT

This site truly has everything - a full outdoor garden center and a wide variety of houseplants all online. The pricing is really good but I’ve never ordered from them so I’m not sure about quality, though their ratings are excellent. They offer most plants in a variety of sizes, so you can choose to start small or splurge for full-on jungle.

Best for: wide selection, size options, pricing
